What Guatú Means

In 1492 Columbus landed on what is now known as the Dominican Republic, where he was welcomed by the Taino Indians, which means “good and noble” in the Arawak Indian language. After Spanish and French settlers brought African slaves to the island, the Taino were eventually wiped out. However, their roots still remain strong today...

Our team name, Guatú, comes from a Taino word meaning Fire. Without discrimination, Fire brings light and warmth to all. Fire is also synonymous with passion. We believe this ancient word parallels our modern vision for bachata in Central Florida.
